The victory was especially sweet as it was against Major League ERA leader David Cone (4-2), Mart&iacute;nez&#8217;s toughest contender so far for the Cy Young award. Mart&iacute;nez said it was a hard game. Mart&iacute;nez allowed 10 hits but only two runs. The Yankees batted at least one hit in each of the seven innings against Mart&iacute;nez.
