E. Leon Jimenes and the Patronato Faro a Colón that organize the Avenida del Puerto\/Faro a Colón New Year’s extravaganza announced that the laser beam show will begin at 11:55 pm today. The national anthem will be played at midnight, followed by a 12-gun salute. At 12:08 on the first day of 1998, the fireworks show will begin. It will be transmitted by the state television network, Channels 4, 5 and 12 at 11:40 pm. Starring at the Avenida del Puerto are the musical bands of José Peña Suazo, los Hermanos Rosario, los Toros Band, Toño Rosario and Fernando Villalona. Other big shows are scheduled for the following hotels: At the Meliá Santo Domingo Hotel (former Sheraton), Jossie Esteban, Jose Peña Suazo, Toño Rosario and los Hermanos Rosario, at RD$700 per person; at the Jaragua Hotel, Johnny Ventura and Miriam Cruz, and Danny Rivera, Alvaro Torres, Sophy and Anthony Rios, at RD$600 for the show. The Gran Hotel Lina will be featuring Sergio Vargas, Ramón Orlando, José Peña Suazo and Freddy Gerardo, at RD$500. Lots of New Year’s action at the social clubs of Santo Domingo, with the Club Arroyo Hondo at 10 pm, announcing Los Rosario, the Club Los Prados at 2 am. Club Arroyo Hondo also features Jossie Esteban and Santa Cecilia Orchestra.
