Statistics for January of this year show that<br \/>\n  arrivals to Punta Cana at 120,159  (up from 75,465 in 2002) were the most<br \/>\n  for any airport in the Dominican Republic. Las Americas International<br \/>\n  Airport (main port of entry to Santo Domingo, the capital city), previously<br \/>\n  the country?s leading airport, is now second to Punta Cana. In January 2002, AILA had reported 82,579 arrivals. Travel there increased to 87,393 this January<br \/>\n  2003.<br \/>\n  In 2002, Las Americas International Airport was the country?s leading air terminal with 1,195,769 arrivals, compared to Punta Cana?s 960,463 arrivals.<br \/>\n  Punta Cana International, nevertheless, is benefiting from the boom in tourism headed for Punta Cana-Bavaro-Macao beach vacations.<br \/>\n  If this trend continues, Punta Cana will become the country?s leading leading airport this<br \/>\n  year.<br \/>\n  Traffic to southeastern La Romana International was up to 30,025 in January<br \/>\n  2003, compared to 21,942arrivals in January 2002.<br \/>\n  Arrivals by way of Puerto Plata?s Gregorio Luperon International Airport were 58,934 passengers, compared to 56,943 in 2002.<br \/>\n  Click here for more details<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to statistics released by the Central Bank, the Punta Cana International Airport is now the leading port of entry for air arrivals to the Dominican Republic.
