Manfred Schoebel announced the Sol Meliá hotel chain would build a
\nluxury 500-room hotel in the Punta Cana area. Schoebel, spokesman for the organization,
\ntold Hoy newspaper that the newest construction would be one notch above its
\nother two properties in the Punta Cana area and would open in time for the 2005
\nwinter season. Sol Meliá also operates the Meliá Tropical Caribe
\nand Paradisus in the Punta Cana region, in addition to the Santo Domingo Meliá in
\nthe capital city.
\nThe third East Coast Sol Meliá hotel will be built with the US traveler
\nin mind, said Schoebel, who also mentioned that Meliá Caribe Tropical
\nwould soon offer golf suites for those traveling to play their Cocotal golf course
\nthis winter. The first 40 golf suites will be available at year’s end, with
\nanother 40 to join the market in 2004, and 40 more by the end of 2005.
\nThe new hotel and golf suites will be built on the Meliá Caribe Tropical’s
\n500,000-square-meter property, of which only one third has been built up so far
\nto house the present 44 residential villas, 502 hotel rooms for groups and couples
\nand another 502 rooms that cater to family travelers. The hotel complex also
