The Ministry of Tourism stand won the first prize for best stand in the
\nOtdykh-Leisure 2003 Russian travel market trade show held at the Olympic Sport
\nComplex in Moscow, 12-17 October. The Dominican stand won for its originality.
\nThis was Russia?s 9th International Trade Fair for Tourism.
\nThe Dominican pavillion work area was a small village of colorful typical
\ncountryside houses with palm trees. The pavilion was also decorated with posters
\nshowing off the beaches, golf courses, water sports and diversity of the
\ndestinations in the East, South and North of the country.
\nDeputy Minister Ana Rita Tejeda received the award for the Ministry. Hans
\nDannenberg Castellanos, international marketing advisor of the Ministry of
\nTourism and executive director of the Puerto Plata Hotels Association also
\ntraveled to Russia for the event.
\nThe DR is increasing in popularity with Russian travelers. Tejeda said that six
\ntour operators are selling the DR and this year the first direct flights are
\nexpected to start to La Romana, Puerto Plata and Punta Cana.
\nDuring the trip, important contacts were made with new source markets, such as
\nCzech Republic, Rumania, Ukrania, Kazhastan, Latvia and Bielorusia. There are
\ngood prospects for Transero, Aeroflot and Ural Airways to provide new
\nconnections to the DR from Moscow.
\nThe Leisure 2003 fair attracted 59 countries and more than 950 exhibitors from
\nthe world over.
