Miss Dominican Republic, six-footer and 22 year old Renata Sone was the second
\nrunner up in the Miss Universe pageant held in Bangkok, Thailand and televised
\nto audiences in the Western Hemisphere on the evening of 30 May. She came in
\nthird place, behind Miss Puerto Rico and the winner, Miss Canada, Natalie
\nGlebova. Renata Sone, a psychology graduate who works in education, aspires to
\nbecome an international model and her high placement will surely guarantee that
\nshe reaches this goal.
\nThree Dominicans participated in the 2005 Miss Universe pageant. In addition to
\nRenata Sone who wore the Dominican banner, others of Dominican origin
\nrepresented Italy and Aruba. Italy was represented by DR-born Maria Teresa
\nFrancville, daughter to a Dominican mother and Italian father. This is
\nFrancville’s second time representing Italy in the Miss Universe pageant. Aruba
\nwas represented by Luisana Cicilia, daughter to a Dominican mother. In 2003, the
\nDominican Republic won its first Miss Universe title with Amelia Vega in Panama.
\nThis year, Claudia Cruz of the DR was the runner up in the Miss World pageant.
\nYadira Geara of the DR also recently won the first runner up position in the
\nInternational Queen of Coffee pageant held in January in Manizales, Colombia.
