The Hispaniola Ornithological Society (SOH) organizes a walk every first Sunday of every month at 7am. This means the next is on Sunday, 6 November. Birdwatchers meet at the front gate of the Botanical Gardens. Located in the northern part of Santo Domingo, the 200-hectare botanical garden’s riparian habitat, wooded areas, open palm savannas and other areas provide many opportunities to watch many interesting endemic and migratory birds. Entrance fee: Dominicans: RD$50, non-Dominican citizens: US$5. Opening hours are 9am to 5pm, but birdwatchers may enter any time after 6am with identifying binoculars in hand. Species to observe: West-Indian Whistling Duck, Least Grebe, Common Moorhen, Limpkin, White-winged Dove, Hispaniolan Parakeet, Mangrove Cuckoo, Hispaniolan Lizard-Cuckoo, Antillean Palm-Swift, Gray Kingbird, Black-whiskered Vireo, Northern Mockingbird, Palmchat, Black-crowned Palm-Tanager, Hispaniolan Woodpecker.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
