A delegation from Brazil was at the Mount Isabel de Torres Botanical Gardens to unveil a plaque commemorating the connection between the Christ the Redeemer statues atop Mount Isabel de Torres in Puerto and the Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro. <\/p>\n
Dignitaries attending the ceremony also included provincial governor Eridania Llibre, Puerto Plata bishop Julio Cesar Corniel, and Ministry of Tourism officials. The event features the planting of a tree common to both Brazil and the Dominican Republic, the Ceiba Pentandra (Kapok). <\/p>\n
The event was part of the province’s latest campaign to reposition Puerto Plata, one of the first tourism destinations in the Dominican Republic. Puerto Plata’s Tourism & Cultural Cluster has been highlighting the destination’s eco-tourism and cultural highlights, in addition to its popular sun and sand attractions along more than 100 km of coastline, such as the beaches of Playa Dorada, Sosua and Cabarete. <\/p>\n
