Former president of the Dominican Small Enterprises Confederation (Codopyme) Yuri Chez has told Diario Libre that 45.3% of wage earners who report their income to the Social Security Treasury (TSS) are paid less than RD$10,000 a month. He also mentioned that micro and small and medium-sized enterprises sustain the TSS, with 94.6% of contributors.<\/p>\n
He said that the SUIR database has registered 1,586,809 employees as of 31 August 2014 and of this total, 719,189 earn less than RD$10,000. A total of 63,181 active companies are paying social security. <\/p>\n
He said that in the DR a micro company is defined as one with 15 or fewer employees. <\/p>\n
The breakdown is:<\/p>\n
1-15 employees: 52,902 (83.2%)<\/p>\n
16-50 employees: 7,274 (11.4%)<\/p>\n
51-100 employees 1,615 (2.5%)<\/p>\n
101-500 employees 1,431 (2.2%)<\/p>\n
501-1000 employees: 211 (0.3%)<\/p>\n
1001-5000 employees: 167 (0.3%)<\/p>\n
5000+ employees: 15 (0.02%)<\/p>\n
