National District Mayor Roberto Salcedo says that next year the government and local authorities will start the second phase of cleaning up the area around the city’s Duarte Avenue as part of the rebuilding of the main markets in the capital. The city government has looked the other way and allowed a major market of informal vendors to develop at the corner of Duarte and Paris avenues, as well as on the sidewalks along Duarte Avenue. <\/p>\n
He said that he would be having a meeting today, Tuesday 2 December 2014 at the Presidential Palace to talk about improving the area between Duarte and Paris avenues. This initiative will have President Medina’s support. Salcedo went on to say that this area was one of the major challenges facing the city of Santo Domingo <\/p>\n
