The Central Bank reports that tourist arrivals in May were up 8.1% compared to the same period in 2014. An additional 31,073 people visited the country, for a total of 416,984 visitors. 85.8% were foreigners, the rest non-resident Dominicans. Foreign tourists showed an increase of 6.5% for 22,005 more arrivals. <\/p>\n
Non-resident arrivals are now at 2,378,348 travelers, for an increase of 6.8%. This means 150,762 more travelers compared to January-May 2014. 114,665 were foreign tourists. The Central Bank attributes the increase in arrivals to economic recovery in the US, the main source of tourists visiting the Dominican Republic. <\/p>\n
Most tourists arrived via the Punta Cana International Airport with 66.7%, followed by Las Americas in Santo Domingo 16%, Puerto Plata 9.7%, Cibao in Santiago 3.6%, La Romana 2.4% and others 1.6%. <\/p>\n
