Former President Hipolito Mejia says he plans to run on the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) ticket in the 2016 election. The PRM is a new PRD dissident party. Mejia was the PRD presidential candidate in the 2012 presidential election. <\/p>\n
Mejia criticized what he described as “unlimited corruption in the administration.” He said it was a threat to democracy and social order, and warned of the high levels of impunity. He said that a sector of the ruling PLD party has control on all branches of government, which affects the sense of plurality and balance that can guarantee genuine democracy. <\/p>\n
“The country is suffering a serious moral crisis. It would seem that many people have reached the conclusion that to do good has no merit,” he said. <\/p>\n
