In its latest forecasts, the United Nations’ Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) estimates economic growth in the Dominican Republic will be 5%, much higher than the regional growth rate of 1%, 3.2% for Mexico and Central America, and 1.9% for the Caribbean. <\/p>\n
ECLAC reports that countries that will lead the region’s expansion during 2015 will be Panama, with a 6% increase in its GDP, Antigua and Barbuda (5.4%), and Bolivia, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic (5%). ECLAC adds that the higher growth rates are in part due to country greater links to the recovering US economy, and one to these countries benefiting from lower crude prices. <\/p>\n
ECLAC says there will be less economic dynamism than what was expected at the end of 2014, with a deceleration of emerging economies. Nevertheless, the region is expected to keep economic growth at around the same level as in 2014 (1.1% according to the ECLAC 2014 Annual Report). <\/p>\n
