This time, at least, the business sector offered an 8.92% increase against the 30% that the union sector was demanding. The labor representatives reduced their wage demands to 25%, as reported in Diario Libre. <\/p>\n<p> Nevertheless, the reclassification of companies to different levels of minimum wage requested by business sector is still the main reason for the impasse in the talks. The private sector is making its wage increase offer conditional on the acceptance of the reclassification in order to permit small business to pay a lower minimum wage than larger companies. <\/p>\n<p> The management and workers representatives and the government officials met for 3-? hours. Management representative Joel Santos, the president of the Dominican Management Confederation (COPARDOM), said that the business sector is willing to be flexible with its proposal to reach an agreement as soon as possible that permits a salary increase in the private sector.
