The Santo Domingo Aqueducts and Sewers Corporation (CAASD) says that the lack of rain so far this year has significantly reduced water levels in the Haina, Duey, Isa, Isabela and Ozama rivers, which supply the aqueducts. <\/p>\n
This has caused a drop in water supply by 122 million gallons a day. Greater Santo Domingo usually has between 380 and 400 million gallons a day but on Sunday, 17 May 2015 it was only 278 million. <\/p>\n
CAASD director general Alejandro Montas said that the Haina aqueduct normally produces 80 million gallons a day and on Sunday it only produced 27 million gallons, a 66% reduction. <\/p>\n
The Isa-Mana aqueduct is down from 18 million gallons a day to eight million, and the Duey aqueduct is down from 27 million gallons a day to only five million. The Isabela aqueduct is down from eight million gallons a day to two million and the Eastern aqueduct is down from 90 million gallons a day to just 59 million.<\/p>\n
He stressed the importance of saving water and said that a fleet of 72 water trucks would be delivering water to the worst affected areas. <\/p>\n
