Too many passengers on board the train that tours the Santo Domingo Botanical Garden worsened by slippery roads due to a rain shower caused the train to overturn on Sunday, 17 May 2015. A passenger told El Caribe that the train driver repeatedly asked the passengers to get off the last of three cars because it was overloaded, but the passengers refused to do so saying they had waited for too long. <\/p>\n
The train left the station and after a while the driver again insisted that at least 15 passengers had to get off, but only six got off. The driver then lost control of the train, which overturned causing several injuries, including one broken arm. <\/p>\n
The injured passengers were taken to the nearby Centro Medico Vista del Jardin and Plaza de la Salud for first aid.<\/p>\n
Botanical Gardens director Ricardo Garcia expressed his regret at the incident and said the rain had made the roads slippery. <\/p>\n
At the time, the Botanical Gardens was hosting the Aventurate ecotourism and adventure fair that attracted unusually large crowds. <\/p>\n
