On Wednesday, 17 June 2015, the Dominican Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE) began three processes for public international tenders for new contracts for the sale of energy, for the supply of coal and for services and maintenance of their installations. Three committees were appointed to oversee the tender process and select the companies to be awarded the contracts. <\/p>\n
CDEEE executive vice president Ruben Jimenez Bichara said that he was aware that many companies would seek political support both from the government as well as from Congress in order to obtain one of these contracts. According to Jimenez Bichara, “this is normal” because there is so much money involved, but he said that he would be firm when it came to protecting the national interests when selecting the companies. <\/p>\n
The first of the contracts will be nine short-term contracts for the purchase of energy, until the coal-fired plant in Punta Catalina in the southwestern province of Peravia (Bani) goes into operation and provides 720 MW of energy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
