An editorial in Diario Libre today, Monday 22 June 2015, reminds readers that the largest employer of undocumented Haitians is the Dominican government for construction works financed by the state. “If the government wants to encourage the fulfillment of the plan it only has to stop the use of undocumented labor in the works it finances,” writes Diario Libre executive editor Adriano Miguel Tejada. “By setting an example, the government can demand that business owners do the same in farming, construction and other sectors.”<\/p>\n
The editorialist also echoed suggestions that government should put an end to informal businesses located on city streets. “This goes for Chinese-owned businesses and for anyone who sets up shop in plain sight in such a way that competes unfairly with formal businesses,” he comments. <\/p>\n
Bottom line, he writes, is that anyone who wants to make money here must register as a person and as a business. <\/p>\n
