The Boston Red Sox baseball team has announced that they will retire Pedro Martinez’s No. 45 on 28 July, just two days after the right-handed pitcher is enshrined in the baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.<\/p>\n
The ceremony will take place at Fenway Park before the Red Sox-White Sox game. The number 45 will be the ninth on the right field facade of Fenway Park.<\/p>\n
Red Sox main owner, John Henry, said that the fact Pedro had been elected in the Hall of Fame in the first year he was eligible is a testament to the respect so many have for him. Martinez played for the Red Sox for seven seasons (1998-2004) and was a key part of the 2004 team that brought a World Series title to Boston for the first time since 1918.<\/p>\n
