The government is getting ready to implement emergency measures to save water as a result of the drought that has been affecting the country since last year. <\/p>\n
According to the director of the Santo Domingo Corporation of Aqueducts and Sewers (CAASD), Alejandro Montas, said that the agency will be announcing a number of measures to conserve water. However, CAASD would do everything possible to continue to provide water for human consumption and try to meet the water demands for the energy sector. <\/p>\n
Montas said that weather forecasts are predicting little rain for the country over the next few weeks and that, combined with low water levels in rivers and reservoirs in greater Santo Domingo prompted CAASD to make the decision to order water conservation measures. <\/p>\n
Yesterday, Tuesday 21 July 2015, the water system could only provide 329.74 million gallons of water per day n a normal daily supply of water is 400 million gallons. This deficit of 71 million gallons of water per day is expected to increase and CAASD simply cannot distribute water that it simply does not have. <\/p>\n
He went on to say that CAASD would continue to deliver water by trucks to those neighborhoods that did not have water. <\/p>\n
