He said he does not fear the lies that have been spread. He made the announcement after Luis Almagro, secretary general of the Organization of American States, said the report of the mission that visited the DR and Haiti will be delivered today, 29 July 2015 at the Permanent Council of the OAS in Washington, D.C.

The mission traveled to the DR and Haiti during early July to ascertain claims by the Haitian government that voluntary and non-voluntary return of Haitians was causing a humanitarian crisis in that country. After the mission had returned to Washington, Luis Almagro announced the report was imminent and issued the controversial statement on an interview with CNN Espanol:

“…We have to advance to achieve a definite solution to this problem… It is an island, eh really when there is an island there cannot be two countries, only one country even if it is a giant island such as Australia. It is a small island with two countries with very different social, economic and political realities.”

The Dominican government referred to the statement as showing the bias of Almagro into this conflict. Shortly after, the Haitian embassy in the Dominican Republic Daniel Supplice blamed the Haitian government for not issuing essential documents to Haitians living abroad so these could regularize their status in the 18-month period given by the Dominican government.

Rodriguez Marchena said that what was clear was that the transparency and legality of the Dominican government’s policies and procedures for immigration reform would trump the lies and misinformation that have been spread, emphasizing that the country had nothing to hide.

He explained that the government had published dozens of stories of Haitians who have completed the normalization process and that their testimonies could be verified by anyone interested.

Furthermore, Rodriguez Marchena went on to say that the government would not issue a general advisory signaling the beginning of deportations so as not to cause alarm. He guaranteed that any deportations would be carried out according to the law and with an upmost respect for human rights and dignity.

http://presidencia.gob.do/noticias/rodriguez-marchena-verdad-dominicana-es-mas-fuerte-que-todas-las-mentiras-juntas

http://www.listindiario.com/la-republica/2015/07/28/382095/marchena-dice-que-el-gobierno-esperara-que-la-oea-presente-su-informe-para-luego-opinar

http://www.noticiassin.com/2015/07/secretario-general-oea-presentara-informe-manana-sobre-migracion-rd-haiti/

Presidential spokesman Roberto Rodriguez Marchena said yesterday in a press conference that the truth about Haitian immigration in the country will prevail.
