The executive director of the Dominican Republic Center for Exports and investments (CEI-RD), Jean Alain Rodriguez, highlighted the export potential of pineapples in the Dominican Republic when announcing the celebration of a National Pineapple Fair from 2-4 October 2015. Now in its fourth year, the fair is held in Cevicos, Sanchez Ramirez (Cotui) province, a major pineapple-producing area. He outlined the initiatives promoted by the Medina government through the CEI-RD and the Ministry of Agriculture, which consist of supervision and training as well as follow-up to optimize quality and increase yields. <\/p>\n
The event is organized by the Cevicos Pineapple Producers Association in cooperation with CEI-RD. Rodriguez recalled that during one of his surprise visits, President Danilo Medina authorized the sum of RD$80 million through the FEDA Program for the purchase of 10 million pineapple shoots of the highest genetic quality from Costa Rica.
