The project, which is being built by Soventix and its subsidiary Soventiz Caribbean consists of a first construction phase of 300 MW in renewable energy, aimed at reducing the country’s dependency on imported fossil fuels. According to Soventix executive Alfonso Rodriguez, this initiative will lead to savings of more than US$250 million in petrol purchases and prevent the emission of more than 1.4 million tons of greenhouse gases. <\/p>\n
The solar energy project, projected to cost US$50 million, is the largest Taiwanese investment in the Dominican Republic’s history. The project is expected to be fully operational by February 2016.
