The Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) confirmed that a model AS-350 Eurocopter helicopter, registration number N-146AE, belongs to the Pollos Cibao company, as reported in El Caribe. The helicopter, piloted by Oliver Gutierrez, plummeted onto the roof of a small house in Maquiteria, a poor neighborhood near the Columbus Lighthouse in Santo Domingo East at around 3:30pm on Wednesday, 2 September 2015. The helicopter was totally destroyed but the pilot survived and was taken to the nearby Dario Contreras Trauma Hospital by a 911 Emergency Service ambulance. A statement from IDAC says that the pilot, who had taken off from Punta Cana, was heading to the La Isabela International Airport in northern Santo Domingo. An investigation into the causes of the accident is underway. <\/p>\n
Nevertheless, Diario Libre reports that the injured pilot was stripped of nearly all his belongings, including his tennis shoes and wallet by the first people to arrive on the scene. A Police report says that his gun, cell phone, a ring and his wallet were stolen. <\/p>\n
Diario Libre reported that the houses in Villa Duarte that were damaged in the crash were also looted. Hoy reported that at least 22 people have been arrested in connection with the theft and looting. <\/p>\n
