For the third time, plastic surgeon Edgar Contreras has regained his medical license after being suspended following a patient’s death. <\/p>\n
In 2006, Contreras was absolved of responsibility for the death of former consul Maria de los Angeles Morel, who died after a liposuction procedure. In 2010 he was absolved of responsibility for the death of journalist Isabel Vargas, also after liposuction and whose relatives accused him of involuntary homicide. <\/p>\n
Earlier this year the National District prosecutor closed his clinic in the National District after the death of another patient, 23-year old Sharlene Cedeno in April 2015. <\/p>\n
According to Listin Diario, the Public Health Ministry has now notified Contreras that his period of suspension is over and he can practice once again.<\/p>\n
The Ministry said that the decision was taken following a report issued by the National Forensic Science Institute (INACIF). <\/p>\n
