As part of a wider conservation initiative for the Ozama and Isabela rivers, the Presidential Ozama-Isabela Commission and the Ministry of the Environment planted hundreds of trees in the El Cachon area in San Isidro over the weekend of 3-4 October 2015, beginning a month-long reforestation program, as reported in Diario Libre. <\/p>\n
Hundreds of people took part in the program, planting trees in both watersheds. The program follows the work done in mid-September 2015 when major cleanups were carried out along the riverbanks in order to prepare them for trees and conservation. <\/p>\n
Most of the people taking part were schoolchildren. <\/p>\n
The Ozama watershed is a priority for the Ministry of the Environment given its strategic importance as a drinking water source for the greater Santo Domingo area as well as its enormous economic, tourism, environmental, social and urban potentials.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
