With the Dominican Winter Baseball Championship set to start on Thursday, 15 October 2015, the results of a Gallup May poll commissioned by the Dominican Baseball League included the eye-catching finding that 31.8% of Dominicans are fans of the Aguilas Cibaenas, a team that has not won a tournament in eight years. The Tigres del Licey are supported by 28.5%, followed by 12.1% for the Estrellas Orientales (San Pedro de Macoris), 10.6% for the Gigantes del Cibao (from the northern region), 7.4% for the Leones del Escogido and 7.1% for the Toros del Este (La Romana). <\/p>\n
The League says that the findings are not representative of a national opinion because 40.3% of the 1,606 people polled were located in the northern region (home base of the Aguilas), 34.2% in the east and 25.4% in Greater Santo Domingo. The idea behind the poll was to get information to improve the experience of the fans when attending the games at the stadiums. <\/p>\n
