The China Post reports that Taiwanese lawmakers froze NT$20 million (more than US$600,000) yesterday, Wednesday 21 October 2015 as part of the Foreign Ministry’s aid budget to the Dominican Republic to pressure Dominican authorities to solve the case of a murdered Taiwanese diplomat. Julia Ou, 55, was a secretary at the Overseas Community Affairs Council posted in Santo Domingo. She was found dead in her apartment on 16 April 2012. The case has not yet been solved. <\/p>\n
The newspaper quotes OCAC Minister Steven Chen’s previous accusation that the Dominican government has been reluctant to investigate the case and even barely responded to OCAC’s inquires about its progress.<\/p>\n
Legislator Lin Yu-fang believes that freezing part of the aid budget could help increase the pressure on the Dominican Republic authorities to work harder to solve the cold case.<\/p>\n
