Five of seven volunteers selected to oversee the school breakfast programs under the Instituto Nacional de Bienestar Estudiantil (National Institute of Student Welfare) resigned yesterday, Monday, 9 November 2015 arguing that the government entity has violated the Law of Free Access to Information and refused to provide information that has been requested, as reported in Diario Libre. <\/p>\n
Oversight commission coordinator Ana Mitila Lora said that they have met with Inabie director Rene Jaquez on several occasions but he continued to postpone providing the requested information. “We got tired of his games,” said Lora. Fellow members Ramon Baez, Flavio Rodriguez Mendez, Frank de la Cruz and Johnnie Martinez have also resigned. <\/p>\n
In an editorial today, Tuesday 10 November 2015, Diario Libre managing editor Ines Aizpun comments on the volunteers’ resignation for reasons that show that politicians are not willing to accept supervision, and that they will not act with transparency as long as the system makes this possible.<\/p>\n
