The Tax Office (DGII) and the Metropolitan Transport Authority (AMET) are reminding vehicle owners that they have only 25 days left to renew their tax stickers known as “marbetes.” The online renewal process closes on 21 December and at renewal points nationwide at 8 January 2016. <\/p>\n
To date, only 457,724 marbetes have been renewed, or 25.7%. Owners who renew late will have to pay a RD$600 fine plus any fines imposed by AMET if the vehicle is stopped while being driven without a current tax sticker. AMET is warning that its agents will begin to impound vehicles and levy fines from 9 January. Worse is that procrastinators will then have to suffer through long lines at the tax offices to get the document. <\/p>\n
