After an 11-hour hearing and three hours of deliberations, judge Ramon Horacio Gonzalez ordered three months preventive custody for suspended judge Awilda Reyes Beltre and resigning Judicial Branch Council (CPJ) judge Francisco Arias Valera. The instruction judge of the Penal Hall of the Court of Appeals of the National District decided that there was enough evidence to order detention at Najayo Jail as requested by the Specialized Prosecution for Administrative Corruption (PEPCA). The evidence includes a receipt signed by both Reyes and Arias for a RD$350,000 payment in return for releasing Pedro Brand councilor Ericson de los Santos Solis, accused of several contract killings. Both said they would appeal. Awilda Reyes is represented by Tomas Castro, and Arias Valera by Carlos Balcacer. <\/p>\n
