As reported in World Archery website, in a first tournament in Medellin, Colombia Yessica Camilo earned a slot for the country. However, she now needs to shoot the minimum qualifying score, which is 600, in a world record status competition. She scored 557 out of 720 points in Medellin.<\/p>\n<p> The next competition is the Hyundai Archery World Cup also taking place in Medellin, Colombia. <\/p>\n<p> Earlier, she along with competitors from Canada, Venezuela, Mexico, El Salvador and Chile each won a Rio 2016 invitation at this week&#8217;s one-day world ranking tournament that served as a continental Olympics qualifier in Medellin, Colombia. Participants battled for six tickets to the Olympics.  <\/p>\n<p> Thirty athletes from 12 nations fought for the three recurve men&#8217;s spots, while 14 competitors from seven countries entered into the recurve women&#8217;s draw. Archers ranked over a 72-arrow 70-metre round then advanced into head-to-head eliminations n and a maximum of one men&#8217;s and one women&#8217;s place could be taken by each country.<\/p>\n<p> To win the ticket for the Dominican Republic, Yessica Camilo upset Cuba&#8217;s Elizabeth Rodriguez in a shoot-off that ended with Camilo&#8217;s win.<\/p>\n<p> The quarterfinal match, between 12th seed Camilo and fourth-ranked Rodriguez, decided which of the two nations took the third women&#8217;s place available in Medellin.<\/p>\n<p> But now, Camilo needs to make the minimum qualifying score to make the Dominican team to the Olympics. <\/p>\n<p> https:\/\/worldarchery.org\/news\/140086\/dominican-republic-qualifies-first-ever-olympic-archer-6-places-awarded<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time, on 9 May 2016, a woman from the Dominican Republic has come a step closer to qualifying for the Rio Olympics in archery.
