He said the best offer the government has made to the doctors is a 15% increase. He said the agreement that has been reached is on retirement and the possible unification of workloads in public hospitals for the creation of a single health network (Red Unica de Salud). He dismissed the announcement as a media ploy by the government. <\/p>\n
The Medina administration had said it has proposed a wage increase of up to 68% for nurses, bio-analysts and psychologists, and 39% for physicians as part of its negotiation process with Dominican Medical Association (CMD) representatives. If accepted, they said, the increases would become effective in 2017. The government also issued a call for doctors to fulfill one eight-hour shift. Doctors can currently hold multiple jobs at several medical centers. <\/p>\n
The government also announced that it agreed to the retirement of 6,000 public sector employees over the age of 65 or with 20 years of service. Diario Libre reported that a consensus was achieved on three out of eight points. <\/p>\n
