Listin Diario reports today that the Brazilian football (soccer) team will stop in Santo Domingo on 15 August, on its way to play an exhibition game against the Haitian national team on 18 August. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula will also be in the country around those dates, having accepted the invitation to Leonel Fernandez?s Presidential inauguration for 16 August. The Listin says its sources indicate the athletic team plans to stay at the Jaragua Renaissance Hotel (see http:\/\/dr1.com\/directories\/hotels\/jaragua.shtml) and will train at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Stadium. Included in the expected roster of footballers are Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos (Real Madrid, Espana), Ronaldinho (Barcelona, Spain), Kaka and defenseman Cafu (Milan, Italy). Of the 18 team members called to play in Haiti, eight were on the Brazilian team that won the World Cup in Korea-Japan 2002, and another five who played on the Brazilian national team that won the Americas Cup in Peru a few weeks ago. President Lula is expected to continue on to Haiti to watch the team play the Game for Peace in Port-au-Prince.<\/p>\n
Entry tickets to the game are being swapped for guns.<\/p>\n
