According to the Emergency Operations Center (COE) a green alert is now in place for the provinces of Puerto Plata, Montecristi and Espaillat (Moca) due to the increased risk of flooding in areas close to rivers and streams.<\/p>\n
The measure was announced after the National Meteorological Office (Onamet) reported on a frontal system over the east of Cuba and a weather front located over the Windward Passage. Both are moving towards the east\/south east across the whole of the country and bringing rain to several provinces: Dajab\u00f3n, Montecristi, Valverde (Mao), Santiago Rodr\u00edguez, Puerto Plata, Espaillat (Moca), Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo), Mar\u00eda Trinidad S\u00e1nchez (Nagua), S\u00e1nchez Ram\u00edrez (Cotu\u00ed), Saman\u00e1, Duarte (San Francisco de Macor\u00eds) and Santiago.<\/p>\n
Rains are also forecast for the provinces of La Vega, Monse\u00f1or Nouel (Bonao), Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, San Pedro de Macor\u00eds, La Romana, La Altagracia (Higuey), San Crist\u00f3bal, Peravia (Ban\u00ed), Azua and Barahona.<\/p>\n
The rains are expected to continue for the first half of the second week of January 2017.<\/p>\n
