Cardinal Nicolas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez said that the obstruction of traffic, drinking, drug taking and much publicized sexual exhibitionism along the now notorious thoroughfare “has no place in a civilized society”. He called on the authorities to find a solution to this problem. “There is a lot of violence, and lack of control which has no place in a civilized society, with young people drinking, exhibitionism and all sorts of outrages”. He added that while these problems were a concern, they did not apply to the majority of young people in the Dominican Republic.
