This is in compliance with CNM Law 138-11. It is the first time that President Medina has convened the council.<\/p>\n<p>The objectives of the council meeting are to choose five new members of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) at the expiration of the term of the present judges, and to appoint two judges of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ).<\/p>\n<p>The CNM needs to replace Julio C\u00e9sar Casta\u00f1os Guzm\u00e1n, the Supreme Court of Justice judge who was appointed to preside over the Central Electoral Board (JCE) and judge Martha Olga Garc\u00eda Santamar\u00eda, given that she has reached the retirement age for judges (75 years).<\/p>\n<p>The members of the Council of Magistrates of the Nation are: President Danilo Medina, Attorney General Jean-Alain Rodr\u00edguez, Supreme Court of Justice president Mariano Germ\u00e1n Mej\u00eda; Supreme Court of Justice judge Frank Euclides Soto S\u00e1nchez; the president of the Senate Reinaldo Pared P\u00e9rez and the president of the Chamber of Deputies Luc\u00eda Medina, both of the ruling PLD party, and opposition senator Jos\u00e9 Paliza and deputy Josefa Castillo, as representatives of the party with the second largest representation in Congress, both of the PRM.<\/p>\n<p>Read more in Spanish:<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/almomento.net\/danilo-medina-convoca-al-consejo-de-la-magistratura-para-el-15-de-mayo\/310125\" target=\"_blank\">Al Momento<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.7dias.com.do\/portada\/2017\/04\/25\/i228005_medina-convoca-consejo-nacional-magistratura-para-elegir-jueces-altas-cortes.html\" target=\"_blank\">7 Dias<\/a><\/p>\n<p>26 April 2017<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Danilo Medina has called for a meeting of the Council of Magistrates of the Nation (CNM) for Monday 15 May 2017, legal advisor Flavio Dar\u00edo Espinal announced in a press conference on Tuesday, 25 April.
