The DR is formally requesting admission to the Plan Puebla Panama (PPP), an economic and social development program established in June 2001 between Mexico and Central America, as reported in El Caribe. In a press conference, Foreign Relations Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso said the government had requested full membership in the PPP during the VII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Tuxtla-Gutierrez Mechanism, which ended in Tegucigalpa on Wednesday, where he represented President Leonel Fernandez. The summit was attended by the Presidents of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Colombia, as well as by the Primer Minister of Belize. The Plan Puebla Panama is made up of 8 initiatives and 69 specific infrastructure projects with required financing of US$7 billion.
