Playa Naco tempts its guests with an entire arcade of fun-filled,
a la carte dining, which doesn’t make deciding easy. Will it be
Valentino’s for pasta, Juanito’s for Mexican food, or Caribbean Grill
for seafood?
Villas Doradas boasts its Jade Garden a la carte restaurant, a classic
in Puerto Plata situated right on the main road and open to guests
from all hotels in the area.
Chef Jose Pichardo learned his craft from his Belgian mentors. From
his kitchen at Octopus (Gran Ventana Beach Resort), he combines
Caribbean ingredients with a European touch of ambrosia in his
seafood casserole, perhaps to capped off with an excellent pineapple
pie. Big, pleased smiles of guests who enjoyed their meal tell the host
who bids you goodbye at the door that it was a success.
Puerto Plata’s Village’s a la carte restaurants are tucked above the
first-floor action and evoke that feeling of a large, elegant Caribbean
dining room in a family home.

In contrast, the hubbub of the large buffet dining areas tempt guests
with their promises of offering something for everyone, and being
able to dine without fixing a time. And they are the place to touch
base with one’s co-vacationers and confirm plans for the evening,
such as happens at the Hotetur Dorado Club.
At Victorian Resort, the buffet area gives onto a lovely view of the
subtly-lit golf course that is also shared by the Playa Dorada Golf
Clubhouse. There you may enjoy a scrumptious wood-oven baked
pizza; delicious. Victoria boasts one of the better piano bars in Playa
Dorada, again a comfortable place where guests settle in to listen
to soft music and talk the night away.
It is difficult to find a larger or more varied buffet than that available
at the Allegro Playa Dorada. Guests at this hotel can mingle in the
large sitting room adjacent to the main dining hall, or stroll down to
the large bar area right besides the show stage.
For dinner outside the resort but within walking distance, there is Al
Fresco, beside the Playa Dorada Plaza. This establishment provides a
place where guests can agree to meet for a quiet Italian-style dinner
and stay all night long.
