Skateboarding
From 5 pm until 9 pm, another kind of
boarding heats up in Cabarete attracting
young people from all over the country
and the world. Skateboarding was added
to Cabarete’s list of active sports with a new
vet skateramp facility opening in 2004, the
first underground ramp built in the world.
The wooden skateboard facility is located at
the Extreme Hotel. This is a below ground
half-pipe named Six Feet Under, a 12 x 15
meter ramp.
In skater terms, it is a 40 ft. wide funramp
(transition 2.5m, approx 8 ft. 3”) with five
different sections respectively. Extensions
starting with a height of 6 ft (1.8m) leading
over 3 extensions into a final part with 10
ft. (3.3 m, transition 3 m) smooth plywood
surface, with continuous metal coping
throughout.
The ramp was designed by Austrian Hans
Peters Hutter. It was built by two Germans
who reside in Cabarete, Helmut Ludwig
and Bernard Tietz.
