Once the final figures are in, travel to the Dominican Republic will show a growth rate of more than 8% in 2015, a record in foreign visitors. Most visitors came from the United States and Canada, reports Deloitte partner Nassim Jose Alemany. Next is travel from Germany, France, Spain, UK and Italy, Brazil and Argentina.
Air Europa to fly SDQ-JFK
The Dominican Republic's success as a tourist destination can be largely attributed to its open skies policy. Now Spanish airline Air Europa has announced that it will be flying to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York from Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo. Juan Jose Hidalgo Acera, president of the Grupo Globalia, the travel group that includes the airline, made the announcement. He said that 80 flight attendants were already undergoing training.
"Air Europa is growing and will bring modern aircraft to fly to this country," said Hidalgo in a TV interview with journalist Lorenny Solano for "Lo que paso en siete dias" on Telefuturo, Channel 23.
Hidalgo revealed that he spends 50% of his time in the DR, his favorite destination among all the places where Globalia has investments. He said Globalia companies employ 4,000 people in the DR.
The other Globalia companies doing business in the Dominican Republic are the Be Live hotel chain with six hotels in the DR and the Viajes Halcon travel agency.
