Propane gas explosion leaves families homeless in Azua

A large propane gas truck exploded after a leak was caused by a bump in the road in the province of Azua, destroying 17 homes. The driver of the truck, Juan Garibaldi Diaz, is credited with having saved the lives of the residents of a nearby neighborhood, warning them to leave the area before the explosion and subsequent fire. Mr. Diaz himself suffered third degree burns, having returned to the truck after warning the people to evacuate. The fire lasted for three hours and was not extinguished more quickly, says the head of the Azua Fire Brigade Oscar Guerrero, because of the lack of equipment and personnel in that province.
