La Romana Airport ready for 15 December inauguration

The La Romana International Airport at Batey Cacata is ready for its scheduled 15 December inauguration, announced airport administrator Luis Emilio Rodríguez Amiama. The Central Romana Corporation, owners of the Casa de Campo resort complex in La Romana, built the new airport at a cost of about US$55 million. The airport is able to handle 300,000 tourists per year. It is near the Casa de Campo resort as well as to resorts located in the Bayahibe/Dominicus area. It also seeks to attract traffic of residents in Higüey and La Romana. The new airport has a 2,950 meter/45 meter wide runway, fit for the landing of almost all kinds of aircraft. (4 December 2000)
