A city hall resolution dating back to 1990 bans the construction of motels and industries on the Malecon but a Chinese businessman feels he has the right to build what he wants on his Malecon lot located at Km. 10. He is continuing with the construction of a motel. The ruling had been reached in order to upgrade what is considered prime real estate on the Caribbean Sea. Already with the construction of several high rises such as the Malecon Center, the Malecon is enjoying a boom. Neighborhood groups have protested the indifference of City Hall to move against the motel. Ernesto Reyna told the Listin Diario that the building also violates the Environment Law.
