The 2008-2009 Caribbean cruise ship season promises to bring increased visitations to the Casa de Campo Cruise Ship Port, as reported in Casa de Campo News. The season opened in late October with the arrival of the 2,758-passenger Victory part of Carnival’s SuperLiner ships. With more than 120 arrivals, the 2008-09 season is slated to be one of the best yet for the port since its opening in 2002. The port will also be homeport to four vessels: German-based Aida Cruises with two ships – Aida Vita & Aida Aura; France-based Pullmantur’s Bleu de France and British Thomson Cruises” Destiny. Passengers arrive by air to the La Romana International Airport, take the cruise, and then return by air to their home country. Homeport arrivals are especially desirable to a destination because tourists spend more time in the destination, and cruise ships source supplies locally.
