Yesterday the World Travel Market came to a close and 17 Dominican hotels that took part came home happy. According to Diario Libre, the United Kingdom’s main tourism fair was a success for Dominican businesses that made contacts with some of the major European tour operators. The 17 companies representing the Dominican Republic included hotels, tour operators, tourist service providers and travel agents. According to the vice president of sales for Casa de Campo in La Romana, they reached agreements with more than 15 tour operators, including a golf tournament in 2011. Punta Cana Group executive Alberto Abreu said that operators from Denmark and Sweden were among the tourists from non-traditional countries who made plans to visit the DR. The golf courses in the east were a big draw, according to the newspaper. Representatives from 187 countries took part in the World Travel Fair.
