The festive season opens at the National Theater with Christmas carol singing by Coro Teatro, a 90-voice choir and a quartet of musicians directed by Mayra Peguero. Soloists for the evening are sopranos Pura Tayson, Maryam de Soto, tenor Luis Guillermo Puello and baritone Arturo Lamarche. The choir will perform at the entrance steps of the National Theater. The recital is part of the Long Night of Museums event set for 10 December. That evening, a selection of leading museums nationwide will be open from 9am to midnight, with free admission.
Choreographer Carlos Veitia promises a new Dominican adaptation of the Christmas-time favorite “The Nutcracker” at the National Theater on 11, 12, 13 December. Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann’s tale, set to Tchaikovsky’s music will be danced to by a selection of some of the best Dominican and guest dancers. These include Maikel Acosta, Lisbell Piedra, Maria Valeria Melogno and Stephanie Bauger, plus international guest Lucas Segovia. This production is directed by Marinella Sallent, with Magaly Rodriguez designing the costumes, Fidel Lopez in charge of scenery, lighting by Bienvenido Miranda and graphics by Fernely Lebron.
Leading dancers from several ballet companies are participating, including the Academia Ballet Concierto, Academia de Ballet Anna Pavlova, Academia de Ballet Los Prados, Ballet Clasico Santiago, Ballet de Camara Ileana Balmori, Ballet Folklorico Nacional, Ballet Teatro Dominicano, Conservatorio de Danzas Alina Abreu and Escuela Nacional de Danza.
