Construction is set for the Nagua to Cruce Rincon-Molenillo highway in 2010 now that its financing has been arranged. Four multilateral organizations will be providing US$149.5 million in financing for the highway. The donors involved are the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), European Investment Bank (EIB), the French Agency for Economic Cooperation (Proparco) and the Andean Promotion Cooperation Agency (CAF). The highway is being constructed by Colombian companies Odinsa, Crodco and Consorcio Remix, which also built the toll road linking Santo Domingo and Samana. Company president Luis Fernando Jaramillo stressed that the highway would be managed by the private sector, and the guarantee of the state was not required for the financing. Samana, known for its lush vegetation and beaches, has major vacation real estate development underway.
