Independencia Cycling Route

The 1,300-kilometer Independence Road Cycling Tour, in its 31st year, starts Sunday, 21 February. The event ends 28 February. The tour is regarded as a leading cycling tour in the Caribbean and is in the top 5 for Latin America and the Caribbean. More than 200 cyclists from around the world are expected, including teams from Costa Rica, Canada, France, Guadeloupe, Puerto Rico, Grand Cayman, the US and Jamaica.
The cycle tour practically covers the entire Dominican Republic.
The event is registered as an America Continental Schedule, 2.2 UCI America Tour.
Cyclists set off from the Plaza Independencia. The event, which is being organized by the Dominican Cycling Federation with the support of the Ministry of Sports, is a celebration of the DR’s independence.
This year the stages are:
Stage 1, Sun 22 Feb:
Closed Circuit Av. 27 de Febrero, Av. Luperon, Av. J. F. Kennedy, Av. Nunez de Caceres. 120kms.
Stages 2/3, Mon 23 Feb:
9am. Ministry of Youth on Winston Churchill East to Boca Chica, Juan Dolio, San Pedro de Macoris, La Romana.
3pm. La Romana, Higuey Basilica.
160kms.
Stage 3, Tues 24 Feb:
Higuey to El Seibo, Autovia del Este, Columbus Lighthouse.
180kms.
Stage 4, Wed, 25 Feb:
9:30am from Ministry of Sports, Villa Altagracia, Bonao, San Francisco de Macoris.
Stage 5, Thurs, 26 Feb:
Moca, Santiago, Navarrete, El Tunel, Santiago, Jarabacoa.
Stage 6, Fri 27 Feb:
La Vega Cathedral to Bonao, Villa Altagracia, Santo Domingo (Intec University).
Stage 7, Sat 28 Feb:
Santo Domingo West Municipality, San Cristobal, Bani, Azua and Bani.
