Punta Cana’s new international terminal entered into operation on Saturday 1 November 2014. The airport now has the capacity to handle more than two million passengers a year.
As of September 2014, the airport had handled around 53% of almost 4.3 million arrivals to the DR, most headed for the Punta Cana resorts.
The new terminal covers an area of 33,000 square meters and has the capacity to accommodate 6,500 passengers daily.
The terminal has two passenger levels and a third level mezzanine for airline offices. There are 50 check-in counters in the air-conditioned concourse that has seven jet bridges and nine departure gates.
